9. Funeral Allowance:
(ii) In the event of death after five years and before ten
years 5% of the last year's basic pay multiplied by
the number of years' service.
$100 Funeral Allowance will be paid to the next-of-kin
of any man (with over twelve months' service) who dies
whilst in the service of the Company.

Note: (I) This Ferry Passenger Carrying Allowance is payable in

The new conditions of service are to be effective from
1st August, 1946. (In accordance with the usual
practice no strike pay to be paid).
REMARKS.
We fully accept the Government policy as announced in the Press on the 26th
May, 1946, that where the basic wage rates as set out in C.A.A. Circular
No.67 are applicable "the present time of fluctuating prices and changing
conditions is inopportune for revising the basic wage rates, and that any
rise or fall in the cost of living is best met by adjustment of the rehabili-
tation allowance which was, the in fact, designed for this very purpose".
As regards employees other than coxswains and engineers, the revised pay is
in accordance with the scales of the utility companies now in force, the
employees being regarded in such a way as we consider reasonable.
As regards the coxswains and engineers, we consider that by reason of their
special responsibilities and duties, neither the existing grades set out in
C.A.A. Circular No.67 nor the scales of the utility companies, can be made
